i hate hate hate nested threaded view, why am I forced to have it?
I hate hate hate hate hate nested threaded view when reading usenet posts, I want to be able to sort after header and after subject and have posts listed in sequence. Just as Netscape 14.x did it. And I want the keyboard shortcuts it had. It was perfect. Learn from it. It is silly that I can not see all posts from a sender because they are nested under another senders initial post even if I select sort by sender. Or by date. Or by topic. And it is silly that a follow up that I give a new topic header gets listed nested three levels down in a thread that it it no longer has any relation to. Yes, if I ask for threaded and nested fine, but I hate it hate it hate it because it hides information.

Now, when I select unthreaded from sort on the view menu I see unthreaded USENET posts. So I start with not understanding what that issue you speak of is. Given it is a simple matter to change the sort to unthreaded, all the rst is not relevant as an unthreaded view exists.
Ah, it was hidden in a non-obvious illegible icon rightmost in daily, so it is still a problem, thanks! - the user-interface needs improvement, but daily stays on the job, it was on its way to getting fired :)
My problem is in Thunderbird with email, not news accounts. Suddenly the other day a sequence of emails that start with someone's original message and go on with replies, which I assume constitutes a thread, is displayed as a unit, indented. It used to be that all of the messages, original and replies, were individual messages that showed up sorted by time or sender name or however I had chosen to order things. I really want to go back to having messages displayed in time order, not grouped as threads. (I do know, use, threads for news accounts. Please don't think that is the problem. But these two separate things were never interrelated in the past.)
The same answer applies. Did you try it?
I am not quite sure what you mean. I did try to find any place that even hints at threaded views for EMAIL. So far as I can see that answer was supposed to apply to news reading and gives me nothing related to email. Can you tell me what to do for email? Thanks
OK, now I found it. Never heard of, or saw, that "Sort" item before. Sorry! Thanks, now I just have to figure out how it had got changed (since as I say I never saw a sort option before!)
