toggling between the 2 settings at mail.compose.attach_http_images from (default boolean false) to (user set boolean true) as per the release notes have no effect on the blocking of images in outgoing message stationery. I still have to accept the 3 images in each stationery html individualy on every outgoing email I compose. Is there another setting that needs to be changed or any other work around for something that has worked perfectly upto the new release. I have no problem with images in incoming email being blocked on security grounds.

any help appreciated

Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled".

If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

If that doesn't help, then Create a new profile in Thunderbird and see if it works better.

I am afraid that did not help. I have had to rebuild all my stationery with all the image files included rather than referenced to individual image files held on the drive and that solved the problem. Not a great step forward
