Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar.

There are two settings;

  • When Firefox Starts

When the browser is started, what do you want to display? Many of us choose Show My Home Page.

  • Home Page

When a new page is opened, what do you want to be displayed?

  1. Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
  2. Use Bookmark
  3. Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.

You can use any of these that you wish;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any webpage or about: page you want.

Thanks for your advice, i,ve tried all of that and mozilla is set to start a blank page, but that doesn't solve the problem which is that the website has hacked the browser to start a webpage before i have double clicked on mozilla

Did you follow the instructions in my last post?

Bookmark and use this; Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

yes, in fact i've been doing that on a regular basis, but after some days MSN.com works out how to hijack the browser again. i've also tried going to permissions on the web page (right click on the page ,page info, permissions) and changing all the settings to BLOCK, but that doesn't work either. thanks for trying to help....

When you have time, try this,

Check the programs that are on your computer

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't know what it is, use a web search.

Such a program is called adware because it changes user settings. In this case, changing your homepage and/or search engine.

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
