Why does Thunderbird put "" around parts of email adresses?
e-mail adresses are stored (visually) correctly in the address book but when Thunderbird picks them up it often puts the first part of the address in quotes thus rengering the entire address invalid. It usually seems to occur when Thunderbird collects e-mails

It usually indicates an unneeded space before or in the address. I would edit that contact and reenter the address to make sure there is no space in there anywhere.
It could be that the contact is correct in your personal book and there is an incorrect entry in the collected book where you tried to send them a message and typed wrong. Check all address books.

I hadn't spotted the spaces, but you seem to be right. I'll keep an eye on harvested e-mail addresses for that. Thank you very much. Most helpful
