Trying to update but after saving the file it doesn't happen. Suggestions made is to install but I don't know how or see anything re installing?

I am advised that my latest update has not been installed. When I click on requesting installation a box appears asking if I want to save the file. I have answered yes and the file is saved. Despite this installation does not occur automatically and the directions state that if it doesn't I should "click here" which I do and the same box asking if I want to save the file continuously appears. I went into the general question area and see that I need to install it but I don't see anyway to do so.
