I upgraded to FireFox 4 from the previous version of 3.6 and now none of my saved passwords are able to be used when I load my websites. They show inside the password manager but do not come up when I load the page.I have checked and none of my settings were changed at all.

I have this same problem. I used Norton Ghost to create a ghost copy of my computer before I reinstalled windows... when restored Firefox from my ghost copy to my new OS all the bookmarks where there, all the extensions, but the passwords were all missing and doesn't ask for a master password... I have a complete ghost copy of my old computer... what and where's the file I need to "copy and replace" so my new version has the passwords?

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
