Firefox does not call TWINUI, and the result is I cannot print downloaded files. Instead, I get an error message "an error occurred during this operation"

more options

Firefox does not allow me to print downloaded and possibly other files. It does not bring up TWINUI, and maybe this is the reason. Using microsoft explorer, TWINUI appears, and printing works fine for the same files. How do I fix this problem. This is a fairly new problem and I only wish that when software works, it does not need software weenies messing with it!!!

Hi bbruce1, is the problem printing web pages or PDFs from a Firefox tab, or is the problem with files you download that do not display in a Firefox tab?

Web Content

When you press Ctrl+p in Firefox, or call up Print Preview and then click the Print button, Firefox should display the standard Windows print dialog listing your available printers.

Does that part work?

Mine doesn't show a TWINUI printer. I'm not sure whether it has another name or is hidden somehow.

Does your print dialog show the "Microsoft Print to PDF" printer? If so, does that one work?

Also, in case you haven't already, please review this article: Fix printing problems in Firefox.

Downloads

Could you walk me through how do you open the file. For example:

  • Select Open... in the Download dialog to launch the file directly in the appropriate application
  • Select Save... in the Download dialog, then click the Downloads button on the toolbar and click the file on the drop-down list to load it in the appropriate application
  • Select Save... in the Download dialog, then click the Downloads button on the toolbar and click the folder icon next to the file on the drop-down list and then open the file from File Explorer

Do you notice any difference in your ability to print between those methods?

The reason I ask is: Firefox browser processes runs with reduced privileges to limit the potential damage to your system from attack pages on the web. In the first two scenarios, Firefox may load the program that you're using to view the document with lower privileges than if you load it directly from File Explorer. That might affect some system-level functions like printing.
