Went to the gmail settings after I install ff 33 to turn off annoying gmail notifications... clicked OK but the annoying notifications continue. Problem #1

Problem #2 I use Start as my home page for searching... when I do a search and hit the back button FF gives me a message that it can't go back and I have to click 2 OKs and then it returns me to the search returns. The is some weird behavior for the back button VERY VERY annoying.

Gmail Notifications

You have an add-on named Gmail notifier. Are you able to adjust its behavior using an Options... button on the Add-ons page? You can check for that here (either):

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions.

If it doesn't work the way you want, you might need to disable or remove it.

Document Expired messages

Many users reported that Firefox 32 has a much higher prevalence of Document Expired messages requiring that some pages be regenerated, and Startpage.com is one of the affected sites.

I'm not sure the exact cause of this was discovered, or when it will be fixed, but two temporary workarounds were suggested:

(1) Since this problem appears to occur when Firefox's cache is full, clear Firefox's cache. You can do that using the Options dialog as follows:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. At some point, the cache will fill up again, but this may avoid the problem for a couple days, a week, depending on your browsing volume.

(2) Disable automatic cache sizing. You can do that using the Options dialog as follows:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab, check the box for "Override automatic cache management" and if desired, change the cache size (typically 350 MB).

Do either of those work for you?
