[Nightly] Why bookmarks keep opening in a new window (library)?
In the past, when I clicked "Display your bookmarks" a 1/4 screen size window (not the library) used to appear with all my bookmarks. Now, however, when I click the same button, a window named "Library" is displayed with the bookmarks. Is that changeable? Any option to return to the old way they appeared?

hello, you can press ctrl+B in order to open the bookmarks sidebar.
Sorry, but the sidebar is not what I were looking for. What I want is that little window showed when you pressed "Display your bookmarks", just as it happens when you press "Customize and Control Nightly".
i think the bookmarks library window has never been different so far, so i'm not sure what you have seen before or if you have used an addon to customize its appearance. you can resize the library window or also open it within a tab by entering chrome://browser/content/places/places.xul into the address bar...
Sorry for the lack of details. I have seen before the same thing we see now when you press alt (the menu bar will appear), go to "Bookmarks" and click it. Exactly what I used to see. Now the library window opens.
PS: Display bookmarks button is circulated in the image
Works fine for me if I click the button next to the star.
I'm using the Classic Theme Restorer extension, so I'm not sure if this makes a difference.
This extension also can add other buttons to the customization panel.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Man, that's weird. Today I turned on my computer for the first time and the bookmarks showed up just the way I wanted them to. I don't know if I did something, or if they keep changing that in the updates. I really don't think that it's the add-on, for I have no add-ons. Neither extensions. Thank you anyway... I just wonder why that happens, so when/if it turns out again, I can fix it.
I guess you are using nightly, (as per System Info aside) or are customising. The screen shots have the rounded tabs, and the hotdog style menu at the right instead of a Firefox Button.
For now I will mark this as solved with by your last answer as it seems it is ok at present and will edit the title to include the word nightly ( I have also tagged offtopic due to the nightly element)
Firefox may have opened the first item in the drop-down list for some reason like a delayed double-click (problem with the mouse).
If it happens again the close and restart Firefox or possibly reboot the computer or try another mouse.
I'm not sure if it is really necessary to lock/hide a thread because it is about Firefox Nightly.

I did not lock the thread, and afaik the tag does not hide it, but certainly not along with the escalate tag. The escalate tag is by definition intended to ensure a thread receives attention.
I think the different classes of offtopic need different tags but Admin opinion at present seems to be to go with the tag combination.
If offtopic tags are changed so they do lock threads that could be a problem.
I don't know what I did wrong about where placing this topic. Sorry. I'm new here. Sorry again: I forgot to say I use Nightly. "Firefox may have opened the first item in the drop-down list for some reason like a delayed double-click (problem with the mouse)." - Hmmm, I believe that's not the problem. My mouse works normally. John99, I can't surely say it is solved, because the problem seems to suddenly show up... and then disappear. This cycle seems to wait some weeks to move on... and then, back to normal again. But do the way you think is right. Thank you for the help!
I have removed the solved marking then. Did you try Cor-el's suggestions ? I guess the problem is that it is an issue that is intermittent and so not easy to troubleshoot.
The fact that you are using Nightly could be relevant. Nightly changes quite a bit. Are you also running Firefox Release ? Does that work ok ?
Just as an explanatory note:
We have just had some changes on the forum, but they are not yet properly documented, and maybe they are not all working as some of us may have expected. Some of the changes may yet be modified further. I and I am sure others also; are finding some of these changes rather confusing at present.
Although I don't know what is Firefox Release, I do know that I'm only using Nightly. But maybe it's solved, maybe not... It can only be an update matter, because it would be weird if the problem showed up and then went away with nothing to interfere on it. PS: I hope I didn't make a mess with what I was trying to say. I don't have a perfect domain of English.
The Firefox Release is the standard version of Firefox.
It is the latest fully tested stable one that nearly everyone uses. Currently it is Firefox 26 and will update in a week or so to Firefox 27.
- Download from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
Many people that use Nightly will also have a stable Firefox because the Nightly one may not always work, and may even have problems with the Firefox profile it uses to store your data; including your bookmarks.
I have a desktop computer w/Logitech keyboard.
I assigned the keystrokes: 'Ctrl + B' to one of the preset keys on my keyboard. Now the Bookmarks Sidebar opens and closes with the touch of one key.
