The extension is not needed to install Adobe reader. You can just download the Adobe Reader setup file and run it to install Adobe Reader. A direct link for the Adobe Reader setup file for Windows, English (US) version 9.4 is http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.4.0/en_US/AdbeRdr940_en_US.exe

Can you start Firefox inFirefox safe mode, this will disable extensions and themes. If you can start it in safe mode, check for any extensions that Adobe may have installed and uninstall/disable them. For more details on doing this see troubleshooting extensions and themes.

If that does not help, try the procedures in the Firefox won't start - find solutions article.

First make sure that the firefox.exe process is not running, then try creating a new profile. Firefox stores user data in a profile folder, creating a new profile will show if the problem is with the old profile. For how to do that see creating a new Firefox profile on Windows.

If the new profile works, you can copy selected data such as bookmarks and passwords to the new profile. For details see transferring data to a new profile. Do not copy the preferences file, and it is best to re-install any add-ons.
