Live bookmark sometimes hangs, manual reload stays stale

more options

I use Live Bookmarks as my RSS reader. That, and Weave, are the only two things keeping me on Firefox. One of them is starting to fail, and the other is flaky at best (Weave doesn't work properly in Portable Firefox). But this is about Live Bookmarks.

Lately, I've had some issues with Live Bookmarks, as of maybe 2 weeks ago. I'd first noticed that my Ars Technica feed stopped updating - it just got hung up and kept the same content. When I noticed that, I tried "Reload live bookmark", which flashed "Live bookmark loading..." at the top, then went right back to the same stale content. I'd have to get properties, go to the feed URL, re-subscribe, then erase the old bookmark. WTF.

I then had the same thing happen to Gizmodo - twice now, and once again with Ars Technica. All these feeds are, actually, working properly (as I said, verified by going to the feed URL), but Firefox seems to be glitching something up. And with no status update (no interface by which to check the status), I have nowhere to gather diagnostic info. Any ideas?

It's funny, I noticed the exact same thing. I have Ars Technica on a live bookmark and it was stale for the past two weeks. I too am running on Firefox 3.6.3. I thought that maybe Ars changed their feed location or something else, but everything is as it used to be on their end, so it is Firefox.

@Falcon, Xmarks is able to keep your bookmarks synced across firefox, IE and Chrome in case you roam from browser to browser at work/home/laptop, etc... However, only Firefox has the live bookmarks.

@gmoshe27: If you're still around, I'm just curious. Do you happen to be a Weave/Sync user? I'm starting to think it's a glitch/bug in Sync that's causing this issue, since it reads/writes bookmarks and might not be set up to properly understand live bookmarks... I've found that I can restart Firefox and the live bookmark feeds come back to life. Any ideas?

I don't use weave/sync, but I do use XMarks to get the same functionality. This past week I noticed that the ars technica live bookmarks reloaded properly. I'm still on FF 3.6.3 using XMarks 3.6.14. I can't remember if there was an XMarks update in-between experiencing this bug.

If the bookmarks go stale again I'll try restarting firefox. If it makes a difference, I'll post back here.

I have experienced the exact same problem with "Live Bookings Loading..." for a while now with multiple feeds (MacOSXHints.com, Yahoo! News). I experienced the problem with no add-ons installed.

It only affected one feed at a time until today, when it is affecting four. The other feeds continue working. Reload Live Bookmark does nothing. Only a reboot seems to fix it temporarily.

It does seem to affect the same Live Bookmark each time (MacOSXHints.com), sometimes affecting others, too. Maybe it is a timing issue with the server response. Perhaps once FF does not get the response it wants, it puts that Live Bookmark into a state in which it gets stuck.

For what it's worth, I'm experiencing the same problem but it's hit and miss between sites - BBC Weather always seems to be fine but the News feed has got 'stuck' several times. The Register is also regularly updating but one of the Twitter feeds has stopped - even though I can see there's new content.

I'm not using any bookmark add-ons.
