Thunderbird sync issues folders

more options

Hello,

Recently I opened Thunderbird and it automatically added the following folders to my account:

https://www.imagebam.com/view/MEX6LYC

All the generic yellow folders below the Deleted trash can icon suddenly appeared and they weren't there or weren't shown before. I right-mouse clicked on the account folder, went to Subscribe, unticked the folders that I don't want to subscribe to (all the yellow ones were there), restarted Thunderbird and they all still appeared and the boxes I unchecked, had just rechecked themselves.

I don't want them shown. Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks

With some providers, the only way to hide IMAP folders is do it in the webmail interface.

How would you do that once you're in there?

Look at the settings in webmail for IMAP folder subscriptions or the options to hide or delete specific folders in the normal view. Every provider is different.

Too be more specific, it's an outlook.com account. Does it have a hide feature in there?

Following the subscribe procedure should work for an outlook.com account, as it does on my setup. If the folders reappear after unsubscribing them, it could be there's a corrupt layout file in the profile. Open the profile from Help/Troubleshooting Info, Profile Folder, Open Folder, close TB, delete or rename folderTree.json. Restart TB and see if the folder structure shows only the subscribed folders.

I went ahead and did that, renaming "folderTree.json" to "old_folderTree.json" but the folders still appear on startup, again.

Is there something else I can try?

Do a test in a new profile with just that account: Help/Troubleshooting Info, about:profiles. The current profile is unaffected.

Could I do it on a new portable apps usb?

You can do the test with portable TB or the one already installed.

Excuse my questions. I'm just trying to understand all this. Thank you for your patience.

I'm pointing to a fresh install from portableapps.com, something temporary.

Are you saying by installing just that account on a new profile, it would re-synch to my account and make those folders disappear?

And what about my native installation where the problem exists? Would the new instillation synch with this older one and make the folders disappear as well?

Add the account to a new profile and see if the folder subscriptions work correctly. If they do, it indicates there's something wrong in the original profile, but since the profiles are separate, the problem will still exist in the original one.

Well I did that on a clean portableapp installing a new profile setup in Thunderbird and the folders still appear, just like in my regular app profile. I even reset the password when I set it up. It connects as it should but those stupid folders won't go away.

And there's nothing signing in to OWA and looking at the IMAP or POP settings to hide those folders. I even disabled POP for the time being.

What next?

No idea. I've never had any problem subscribing or adding or deleting folders with my hotmail account, so I can't offer any more advice.

Well I appreciate all your help. I may have to check out another forum next. Or worse case scenario, I'll have to live with them. Neither yahoo nor gmail does this. Only MS accounts.

Again, thanks for your help.
