I cannot log into my credit card account with capital one because I keep getting the message "secure connection failed". I can however log into American Express and my bank.

Are you sure your Firefox meets the requirements as described here?

- JavaScript shouldn’t be disabled by default, unless you have set a preference to block it (javascript.enabled should be set to true in about:config) OR if you would be using a particular add-on that blocks it, such as NoScript (apparently not). You could check here if JavaScript is enabled and working.

- Browser cookies should be accepted when either Firefox will: Remember history or Firefox will: Use custom settings for history is chosen in Options > Preferences > Privacy, provided that Remember cookies is also set to Always or From visited for the custom choice. Note that choosing Firefox will: Never remember history will not allow them either, since this is similar to Private Browsing. Additionally, you could right-click on the Bank’s page, choose Page Info > Permissions panel and check if cookies are allowed for the page.

Also please have a look at the Secure connection failed and Firefox did not connect article in case you haven’t found it yet.
