I had the same problem. To go back to Firefox 4 in Windows XP I used the control panel, 'add or remove programs', then selected Firefox 5 to uninstall. After that was complete, I downloaded Firefox 4 from here:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-4.0&os=win&lang=en-US

Then installed it and now have my Roboform toolbar back.

If I uninstall FF5 will I lose all my Bookmarks? How do I reinstall the Bookmarks to FF4.0?

cal165h - I do not know if you will lose them or not now when you reinstall, but here's how you can save them just in case.

1. Hover over the orange Firefox at the top right for your menus to appear 2. When the menu pops out, click on Bookmarks 3. A new box will appear. Click on "All Bookmarks" on the left side of the new window 4. While this is highlighted, look to the right half of the window at the top and you will see "Import and Backup" - choose backup. 5. Save to a location that you will remember like your desktop or my documents folder with a name you will remember - or you could always leave it as default.

When you reinstall version 4. You will do the same thing except the Firefox icon will be a menu instead of the orange mini button. Go to bookmarks and you'll choose import this time. (Actually, I think Firefox may ask you if you want to import during install - if it does, then can just tell it to import from that file instead of from Internet Explorer.)

Hope that helps - let us know if you have more questions. :) 6.

I reinstalled version 4.0 and it worked. Now Firefox is very persistent in trying to update to version 5.0.

It doesn't want to take no for an answer.

It would be a lot easier if you just updated Roboform!

You can keep using Roboform V6 AND benefit from the improvements found in the latest version of Firefox with this fix : (found on the website Windows Secrets)

1. Install Roboform 7.2.7

2. Copy folder "c:\Program Files\Siber Systems\AI RoboForm\Firefox\" to another location

3. Install Roboform 6.10.2 -dont untick option to install adapter for firefox

4. Replace "c:\Program Files\Siber Systems\AI RoboForm\Firefox\" with your copy from 7.2.7 version.

Now you should have working 6.10.2 roboform with latest adapter from 7.2.7

Thanks Smoo for your tip on getting Roboform V6.10 to work with the latest Firefox at the time. I've followed your instructions, and It works even for the newest Firefox (V5). I too was surprised and disappointed when I discovered what I thought was a free upgrade to the latest Roboform for paid users of V6 turned out to be 30 day trialware. I have read some posts that side with Siber System's decision to end support of V6 for new versions of Firefox, arguing that they should not be compelled to honor "lifetime" licenses for all future releases of the browser. They may have a point, but the way Siber Systems went about marketing the upgrade to previous license holders was deceptive at least. So, if there is a way to continue using Roboform V6 (and benefit from the improvements of the latest version of Firefox) without paying this company another penny, I'm in favor of spreading the word.

As for dumping Roboform altogether, I've heard of security breaches for other password management programs (e.g.: LastPass Password Manager) that store the info remotely ("in the cloud"), so I prefer to keep my passwords encrypted AND stored locally, as is the case for Roboform V6.

Thanks again for your help.

Firefox--I think you're great but you misled me on the upgrade to 5.0--the warning said the Roboform toolbar wouldn't work with 5.0, and, since I use Roboform without the toolbar I thought it was okay to upgrade. So the warning should just say flatly that Roboform doesn't work with Firefox 5.0.

Roboform says they are not updating version 6. Firefox needs to make roboform version 6 compatible. Roboform has a version7.3.2 but you have to buy a new license and that license only lasts 1 year. Please make Firefox versions compatible with Roboform version 6 then we dont have to keep buying licenses year after year.

There is only one real solution to the problem. Roboform is used by many, many people. Why is Firefox releasing a new version that is not compatible? This is business stupidity or insanity. Perhaps it is time to leave Firefox until they prove they care about their users.

more options

The "insanity or stupidity" comes into play when users blame Firefox / Mozilla for their problems with 3rd party software that works via a Firefox add-on that was created by that 3rd party. Roboform needs to keep their stuff updated when Mozilla releases a new version of Firefox. And since Roboform apparently isn't capable of updating itself when an update is needed for a new version of Firefox, the user has to install that update then self.

Version 7.3.2

  • Firefox 5: add support for Firefox 5.

The administrator is absolutely correct. It is up to the 3rd party software suppliers to provide compatible software to the 'mother' browsers. Not the other way around.

In the case of RoboForm, they are squeezing existing customers with lifetime licenses into upgrading to 7.0+ versions that require a new license that must be renewed annually.

If you don't want to give up your lifetime license, then you have to keep the older versions of both Firefox and Roboform. Or give up on RoboForm altogether and fine another solution software.

RoboForm has been good but not so good that I am going to be forced to pay them again, let alone every year!
