I've been away from my desktop for a week and now the searches in the address bar are not working. For example, I used to just type 'test' into the search bar and the tab would show a list of Google searches. Two words work though. Any and all help would be deeply appreciated. I've tried Search Reset, changing the keyword and fixup in about:config.

Thanks for the paste. Looks like this service based in Malaysia: http://midas.nervesis.com/ (http://www.nervesis.com.my/). Does it seem plausible that your ISP is using this service?? Even if it is, it should not be able to override the new way that address bar search works in Firefox 33.

I think the question of a bad extension was raised before. Have you tested in Firefox's Safe Mode to rule that out? It's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, some advanced features, and some custom settings. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Note: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox closes, a small dialog should appear: click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

Current question: So why isn't it working now ? And how or what can I do to fix this ?

SO FAR:

  • one word search does not show search results in default search engine
  • two word search DOES show search results

HAVE SUGGESTED:

  • addons
  • enabling keywords in search bar
  • adding a keyword, but do not want to try that.

Have you changed what to include in the awesome bar from the Firefox Menu > Preference/Options > Privacy > Location Bar? Have you tried moving your searches to the Search bar next to the url?

Did this change, yes it did. How can you fix it, I would suggest a work around.

Actually, while one word searches yield results, it seems to be bugged, or atleast for me anyway. Example : Suppose there are two tabs in a Firefox windows. Let's just call them tab A and B. Now, if I were to type a word on the address bar on tab A and tried to search it, I'd get a 'Server not found'. Tab B is unaffected. However, if I switch to tab B when the search on tab A begins, results would appear on both tabs. Two word searches do not show results. 'Address is invalid' error appears.

The Location Bar thing you mentioned only appears to affect whether I want it to suggest History or Bookmarks. Doesnt seem to have anything regarding searches. And yes, the Search Bar does yield results normally. I am not trying to nitpick here nor be difficult but my problem is regarding the address bar. I understand that the Search Bar functions but I would prefer being able to use the Address Bar as a searching tool as well.

Sorry but I dont understand what you meant by 'Did this change, yes it did. How can you fix it, I would suggest a work around.' ?
