We use Mozilla Firefox in an environment that does NOT have access to the internet (intranet websites). How can we manage add-ons? Instead of installing add-ons, is there a file (or files) that we can download, transfer to our work environment by USB-stick or equivalent, and then 'install' the add-on manually (offline)? Is this scriptable, so we can do this for all our PC's in an easy way?

About this Add-on
Use the Belgian electronic identity card (eID) in Firefox. In addition to this add-on, the eID middleware should also be installed on your computer: download the middleware for your operating system on eid.belgium.be.

You can easily download the installation files by

  • browse for the add on to be installed from a pc with internet connection.
  • right click on "Add to firefox" button and click "Save link As..." menu and save the file with ".xpi" extension.
  • copy this file to the pc without internet connection.
  • drag the".xpi" file into firefox, which will prompt for installing the extension.

Thanks! I tried that, with the "Belgian eID" add-on, which translates to file eid_belgie-1.0.18-fx.xpi I then copied that file to the non-internet pc and installed it. It seemed to work, but when we tried to use the plug-in, the application gave a message 'plug-in' not found. When I go to the Tools->Add-ons in Firefox, the Belgium eID indeed is not in the list of plugins! It appears in the 'Extensions' item... Any ideas? Thanks.
