I cannot add bookmarks. I have tried many resolutions, but still no results. I used to be able to bookmark, but now this doesn't happen. This happened after I refreshed my system.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

no this did not help.....isn't there an easier way to fix this. This is very frustrating

Did you go to the Firefox profile folder and delete all places.* files or moved them to another location (folder)?

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

That will force Firefox to create a new places.sqlite database file and automatically import the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

I'm not sure if a reset would work properly in cases like this with possible file corruption, but you can give it a try if deleting places.sqlite didn't work.

If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data). You will lose extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you've made.

It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious to avoid carrying over the problem.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
