How do I stop Firefox 7 (or 8) from inserting the Mozilla logo in place of another company's logo when creating a desktop icon from a fovorite bookmark?

When I drag a copy a website favorite from Firefox's Untitled Bookmarks to my desktop, the company icon is changed to the Mozilla icon. This results in all my desktop icons looking the same, though the individual labels are preserved.

If you create an internet shortcut that way then that shortcut gets the icon of the default browser.
If you want a different icon (favicon) then you have to assign that icon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties).
You can usually get the favicon if you append "favicon.ico" to the main domain of a website (e.g. http://www.mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder or see if you can find it in "Tools > Page Info > Media".

Thank you cor-el for your prompt attention. Locating the icon by appending /favicon.ico to the domain name worked like a champ, giving me an image I could copy to a desktop folder from which the icon could be assigned without being overwritten by Firefox's default icn.

this works for most icons, but some like "facebook" and "pinterest" do not.....are there any other solutions?

That's insane! I just want to minimize, drag the website to my desktop and have the website icon, NOT the Firefox icon! All my icons look the same (the Firefox)! This is totally stupid and proprietary. I'm sick of it!
