I click on open new tab. When the window opens I type in the address of any web site and hit enter. Firefox says that it is in offline mode please uncheck working in offline mode in the file menu, however working in offline mode is not checked. I click try again but I get the same results. I check other web sites with the same result. I checked to make sure I am online and I am becasue I am sending this message in Internet Explorer. I am using Windows 7 premium home edition. What gives? Bill Callihan

Did you try to toggle the File > Work Offline setting a few times?

You can try this:

Create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.

Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.

Name: network.manage-offline-status
Value: false

I have a Mac Mini desktop using Firefox as my browser. When I registered on a site for an upcoming panel, I clicked submit and the message said Firefox is Offline and to uncheck it. But it wasn't offline. It had been connecting okay up to then.

Some times Firefox crashes on me too. I never had these problems before with Firefox. Is it a problem with the latest update? Another problem is opening numerous windows whenever I go to a new site until I have 4 or 5 windows open. I can't find out how to stop this problem.

Hi,

I have to be honest. Can you tell me where the about:config pageis so I can open the right click context menu and add the new Boolean pref.? Thanks

Firefox has a special page to inspect and change preferences, called about:config.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a web site to open a web site.

If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

Hi cor-el,

Your about:config boolean advice fixed my problem, thanks. However, I have two other questions. I have recently upgraded to windows 7 from windows xp. There was an add-on when I used firefox with xp that let me review the next link in a forum without clicking on it and I cant seem to find it could you help. Secondly, when have three or more tabs open for an hour or more and I try to click on a link to open in a new tab or start a new tab from the file menu and the type in the URL the tab will show it loading but it loads for a long time and never finds the URL. The only way it can make it work is to close all tabs and save and the open a new window in Firefox. I also get an error message the firefox is already running I must stop FF from running before I can open a new window. When I go to the task master FF is not running as an application but if I go to processes and close FF in the process window then I can return to desktop and open FF. Any solution?

When I attempt to open Firefox, I was getting "unable to open window;" Firefox in offline mode; turn off work offline. Now nothing happens when I right-click and open either Firefox or Firefox safe mode icon. I cannot turn off "work offline" if I can't get to the Firefox page. I have downloaded latest version of Firefox via Inernet Explorer, but it won't load. Somehow IE overrides everything I try to do--including what I am trying right now. If I had my druthers, I'd completely do away with Internet Explorer, but then I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to get online at all.
