I mistakenly thought I was saving my email by saving the folders below to an external hard drive. I did not save the profile itself. It is possible to read the content of these folders when opened in a text application or Firefox. However, most of what is displayed is hypertext. Is there any way I can read the messages without the hypertext? Thank you. Are these folders for email you created in Thunderbird and then copied from outside Thunderbird? If so, you should be able to copy into Local Folder area of a profile with Windows Explorer, start Thunderbird and read the messages.

Thank you for the information. I have had some other computer issues that prevented me from responding earlier.

Should I assume that I must create another profile for this purpose? It appears that copying the folders into the existing profile would overwrite the mail in that profile. Or am I missing a point somewhere?

Thanks

Look at content in each folder. Is there a suffix of .msf? My thought would be to copy (when Thunderbird is not running) into the Mail\Local Folders\ section of profile and then restart Thunderbird and see the folder is visible.
