I periodically have a need to key things with certain ASCII codes (WIndows 7 platform)...

I know to utilize the number pad to the right and the number lock is on and enabled.

The problem is that any ASCII code involving the number 7 takes me to Firefox's home page.

For example:

≈ is alt code 247

As soon as I hit the 7 it reverts me to the home page and I lose where I was unnecessarily because of this...

What I would like to see happen is for someone to fix the setting where I can key in ASCII codes with the number 7 without it going to the home page and have been unsuccessful in my attempts to figure out how to do such...

If you use Alt + number keys to enter accented characters then make sure that Num Lock is enabled to prevent Firefox from interpreting the key press with the corresponding command (Alt+4 is going back and Alt+6 is forward in the Tab history and Alt+7 would open the home page).

Install the US International keyboard layout and switch to that layout if you need to type accented letters. That layout supports dead keys and easily allows to enter accented characters.

I do have the Num Lock enabled and everyhing as I don't think the ASCII codes would work without it (regardless of what program I'm keying it in)
