I have thousands of emails in MS Entourage on the Mac (2008) and would love to import them all into TB. Have tried dragging individual folders from MS Entourage to the desktop, but they won't import into TB.

Any thoughts would be very helpful.

thanks in advance,

Mike

Download ImportExportTools and save the xpi on desktop https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html

Open Microsoft Entourage. Click and drag the mailbox you want to convert to your desktop. (drag every folder with mail that you want to migrate .) Close Entourage

Open Thunderbird.

install the addon: Tools > Addons click on wheel cog icon and select 'Install addon from file'

Click "Tools," then "ImportExportTools" and then "Import Mbox File." Locate and select your mailbox on your desktop. Click "Import."

thanks for your reply. I followed your instructions and got this error message when attempting to import: [JAVASCRIPT APPLICATION} (or something like this) This "mbox" file seems to come from Eudora. Thunderbird can't handle it and so you must convert it in standard "mbox" format.

I created the mbox by dragging it from MS Entourage to my desktop. Any other suggestions would be appreciated, too!

Is the 'mbox' file named eg: 'Inbox.mbox' ? If yes, rename the file to 'Inbox' with no extension. Then retry to import.

Makes no difference if the folder has the .mbox extension, or no extension at all, I receive the same error message.

The instructions should work if MS Entourage. However, I notice that the error message says: This "mbox" file seems to come from Eudora. Thunderbird can't handle it and so you must convert it in standard "mbox" format.

According to this error message, you are moving a Eudora file to your desktop and not an MS Entourage file. So, maybe you have moved the wrong file - moved out of a Eudora mail folder instead of MS Entourage?

Recheck where this file originated. the previous instructions will work for Entourage.

If it is Eudora then use instructions below:

If this is a Eudora mail account, you should be able to directly import from Eudora to Thunderbird: Tools > Import Select Mail click on Next select Eudora and click on Next.

Maybe there is an issue with the ImportExport tool - maybe you do have a Entourage mbox file but the tool somehow has a bug. This would be worth reporting to the author. I notice:

Version 2.7.0.3 Released March 22, 2012 137.2 kB Works with Thunderbird 1.0 and later

Changelog 2.7.0.3 version - added again german locale (thanks to Piotr Niemiec); - added a check to block import of mbox files coming from Eudora, since Thunderbird can't handle them;

I'll send a report to the author - his email address is available via the webpage. Another options: Export the Entourage mail as .eml files and then use the ImportExporttool to import .eml files. Create a folder on desktop to store the .eml files. Open an Entouarge folder and highlight all emails in folder, then drag them into the desktop folder. They should be stored as individual .eml files.

Thanks for your time & help. No, I don't have Eudora, but do have MS Entourage for Mac, 2008. The fix I found to work is to create a new empty folder on the desktop, then go to the folder in Entourage I want to import. I select all the emails and drag them to the desktop folder.

Then I go to TB and create a new folder in the Local Folders, with the name of the Entourage folder. Next I go to Tools menu>Import/ExportTools>Import messages; navigate to the desktop folder and select all, and voila, they import into the new folder. Of course, they now show up as all unread, so I use the arrow key to go through the whole lot. I then trash the files in the desktop folder and repeat with the next Entourage folder. It's a bit tedious, but it works!

To elaborate more, I figured out I could create the new folders in the inbox of the main email account I use, no need to use the Local Folders option. I had 18 different folders with thousands of emails total, but it's all done now. (Figured out that after importing them into TB I could select all the messages and mark them as "Read." Only had a few hiccups, some emails showed up with today's date even though they were 4 years old.

Problem solved!
