I still have the error message that "Firefox is still running". I have checked task manager, no firefox files running. Have tried to uninstall / reinstall. Unable to find profile to unlock. After trying to reset, got message Couldn't load XPCOM. I am using Windows 8.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} and see if the problem is still there.

Fred, thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I could not load Firefox as the program will not load with "firefox still running". Somehow, I needed to track down what was running, or what was making firefox think it was running.

I kept fiddling with my computer, rebooting several times and the like, running crapcleaner, etc. Something--unfortunately I do not know what--and firefox was no longer "running". So, I was able to re-install at that point.

I then stated firefox in safe mode, could not get out of safe mode. Ended up exiting firefox, and rebooting again.

Now, all appears to be working, except at times firefox slows down. I exit, and reopen, all runs good for a while....It would slow down at times before all these issues, so I believe I have a troublesome script that does not agree with firefox. May go back into safemode to see if I can track that down.

Thank you.

Okay, lets take a step back. When was the last time you ran virus scans? How about mal-ware scans? When was the last time you ran any diagnostic programs? Sometimes files become corrupt, but the computer does not know it.

Virus / mal-ware scans done daily, and I did a deep scan overnight.

Run "Crap Cleaner" regularly.

Would appreciate advice as to a good diagnostic program.

Fred, I appreciate your attention and concer....all is working now. Go figure!

Thank you.

Well, you know what it's like. There's a problem with the car, you take to to the mechanic, and no sooner do you pull into the garage, the problem is gone.

Is Firefox working?

Go to Microsoft.com, and use the search bar for diagnostic.

Fred McD Firefox is working now. Slows down sometimes, so exit and on again, all works.

Thank you again.
