Recently changed lots of psw's (HeartBleed). Want to re-save new ones, so that for several web sites, the psw comes up automatically. OK, so went to security option menu. But the "remember password for sites" option is grayed out. Checked Internet Options etc but don't see where I can "ungray" the option. Any pointers, please?

Thank you, Pat

Chosen solution

You appear to be running Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode: browser.privatebrowsing.autostart: True and you can't save new passwords in PB mode.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

So you would like to remove your past password from firefox and add new one. For doing this, please do the following steps.

  1. Go to firefox menu on the left side
  2. Then Tools and then options
  3. In options, please go to Secuirity
  4. Then, click on Saved_password Button
  5. Then click on Remove all Button.

Now all passwords are removed. Now, whenever you login to any site with new password, please click on Save Password.

Hope this solves your problem

Thank you! I completely forgot about "private browsing"! It worked, of course. Will later reset to private.

Most appreciated.

Thanks, but this one didn't quite do it. Please see other reply. Seems I forgot about the impact of "private browsing".

Thanks again!
