Since 30 October 2012, Mozilla has blocked users from running YouTube on Firefox 3.6.28 running on Mac OS X 10.5.8

The last Flash player plug-in that can run on G4 ppc computers is 10.1.102.64. On Oct 30 2012 Mozilla blocked _all_ versions of Flash below version 10.3.183.19 from running on _all_ versions of Firefox. Can this block not be lifted from ppc versions of Firefox (below 3.6.28)?

Yes, Flash 10.1 r102 is the last supported version for PPC Mac (ref.). I'm guessing that your Flash plugin is now blocked in Firefox 3.6 because Mozilla blocklisted Flash 10.2 and below on October 5, 2012 and/or because Mozilla also blocklisted Flash Player Plugin below 10.3.183.19 on October 30, 2012.

Could you go to the Firefox "Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins" list, FIND THE FLASH PLUGIN, and click the Enable button, then try playing a Flash YouTube video?

P.S. If the above doesn't work, even after restarting Firefox:

You could try disabling the blocklist, which isn't normally recommended since it will remove ALL blocks, many of which are in place for security reasons. If you want to do this,

FIRST: Change the extensions.blocklist.enabled preference to false in about:config

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. (If necessary) Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Double-click on extensions.blocklist.enabled in the list of preferences to change its value to false.

NEXT: Quit Firefox, then open the Firefox profile folder and remove the file blocklist.xml

Hi Alice, Yes, you guessed correctly. Thank you for your suggestions. The first one didn't work unfortunately. The 'enable' button for the Flash Player in Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins is greyed out, so that option won't work.

'Voiding the warranty' does work, but it does kind of mean going nuclear on the problem. I note that in the block request discussions on Flash 10.2 and 10.3, no-one discusses the potential impact on ppc users.

As per my original post, it would be nice if that block could be lifted on Firefox for ppc. Or at least that Firefox 3.6 did allow users to enable the use of Flash 10.1.

p.s., I didn't have to restart Firefox. As soon as I disabled 'blocklist.xml' (by renaming it to 'blocklist.xm_'), YouTube started running once I refreshed the tab.

Hi, I'm glad disabling the blocklist worked out. Just so you know, making about:config changes isn't "Voiding the warranty" since there is no warranty ... it's just Mozilla's attempt at humor. See Bug 446704 - "This might void your warranty!" is not appreciated by corporate customers

That's something that Firefox developers need to consider (this forum is basically user-to-user support). The best I can suggest is to file a bug report via https://bugzilla.mozilla.org and include the information you posted here.

agreed 100% , i assume there are contributors to contact with Firefox developers more directly and refer that matter for a quicker solution.
