Chosen solution

Twitter has caused the problem. They have decided to work on a new API. You can see full info at the link I provided. As a result of Twitter's decisions, connections were failing, so Thunderbird had no choice but to disable. Full conversation at the bug link explaining how they tried to fix, but cannot do anything because of Twitter.

In Thunderbird, if you pretend you want to add a Chat account, Menu app icon > New > Chat account The window that opens does not display a 'Twitter' chat network option.

Is Firefox your default browser? You can check if FF is the default browser by going to the FF menu > Options > General > Startup. If it isn't the default, click the Make Default button which will take you to the Default Apps section of the Settings app.

That twitter link is just an HTTPS url, so it should be openning using your default browser. If FF is already set as the default, open the Settings app, go to Apps > Default Apps > Choose default applications by protocol. Find HTTP and HTTPS in that list and set them both to open using FF.

Since you've installed the Twitter app, it may have been turned on for links to the twitter website. To turn if off, just click the Apps for websites link and turn it off from there, so that twitter links continue opening with the default browser or the one you set for HTTPS urls.

already done all set properly not so much Firefox it is when someone posts a tweet i get it in my Thunderbird mail and it will not open there or in Firefox it give a re direct says i do not have a an app associated with it. My own page opes but i can not open any tweets posted into my thunderbolt mail or Firefox attachment image i what i get when i try opening someone Twitter post in Thunderbird or firebox yet they open in Chrome. Edge and Comcast mail but not in Thunderbird or Firefox from Thunderbird Thunderbird is my default through Comcast and Firefox is and has been my browser. I have tried with add-ons removed disabled refresh both Thunderbird and Firefox actually reinstalled both and still get the problem

but ks for your help
I think it is either a Twitter or Mozilla problem
it worked until both the Firefox and Thunderbird updates recently

Have you uninstalled the twitter app and reinstalled it?

If you have try this.

If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

Update on Twitter Chat.

Twitter Chat has been removed from Thunderbird. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1445778#c35 Twitter has decided to change the API and is adopting a new one, but seems to be having a delay due to a security issue. https://blog.twitter.com/developer/en_us/topics/tools/2020/introducing_new_twitter_api.html

I'm not sure what Twitter chat has to do with https links that happen to be pointing to twitter.com not opening.

I am facing the exact same problem as above. I do not want to chat through Thunderbird, I just want Thunderbird to open links.

Like be able to open https://twitter.com/i/redirect?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Fi%2Ftopics%2Fnews%2Fe-1037402585%3Fcn%3DZmxleGlibGVfcmVjcw%253D%253D%26refsrc%3Demail&t=1+1602848217861&cn=ZmxleGlibGVfcmVjcw%3D%3D&sig=89efa82ec2eb5af1010701447641dd61f6be35d9&iid=c5614a816e3a4f1aa88d53553d574c0f&uid=420110661&nid=244+272830465 (just as an example) in my default browser or the windows twitter app. Instead I get the same error as described above.

I don't see how changes to Twitter's API are related to simply opening links. Unless the latest Thunderbird update accidentally broke links pointing to twitter.

Yup, I had the same problem, and got around it by doing this. In the Twitter email in Thunderbird, I right- clicked on the link I want to open, and left-clicked on the "copy link location". Went into Firefox, left-clicked in the address field and selected everything in the field, and pressed Ctl-V to paste the link from the email. Press enter, and you're in the Twitter article you want!
