Firefox was hanging a bit, so I closed it. Then I ran it again. It just immediately froze and the entire window was white, so I closed it and ran it again. No tabs. I immediately went into appdata and saved copies of the sessionstore backups. I then went to close firefox again so I could use them to restore the tabs, but it said it was updating right before I closed it and then updated to a new version and restarted.

I then closed it and tried putting one of the sessionstore backups into the profile folder as sessionstore.js. Opening firefox then just opens two separate windows with one tab each of google. I tried the other backup and it just does the same thing. This is all it will open instead of my 173 tabs that were open.

The backup files are 4.22 MB large though. Surely the tabs are still in them? Maybe they are corrupted? Is there any way to fix this and get them working?

Chosen solution

I finally got my tabs to re-open. The method was to replace the sessionstore with the backup, delete the sessionstore backups and the checkpoints file, launch Firefox, close the two Google tabs that pop up in separate windows, and then re-open Firefox a second time without touching the sessionstore again. This caused all the tabs to come up.
