A REAL DILEMMA! I've been using add-on "Create Shortcut 0.3.6" (creator, Pike) now unavailable in FF-43. Downgraded back to FF42. What next? Using "Create Shortcut 0.3.6 for over 10-years now; this add-on adds immensely to using Firefox - I found the add-on deleted with upgrading to Firefox 43! There are no other add-ons that I can find that accomplish this shortcut feature. Why doesn't Mozilla provide this feature inherent with the browser? You get the picture! Pike states http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/: "Mozilla plans to deprecate the current Firefox extension system in the next year or so. As a result, I have decided that the time is right to discontinue my extensions. These extensions were all written over twelve years ago and have barely been modified since. It would be a lot of work to modernise them for current Firefox, let alone rewrite them for the future Firefox extension system." A Real dilemma! Any help would be immensely appreciated to find a solution to this problem! I can go no further with Firefox updates past 42. What next?

Mitchell

You would still be able to use them in the current release (43), but likely not in later releases because extension signing will be enforced.

It would be nice if someone wrote the code to add this to Firefox itself, assuming it's possible. Firefox for Android has a built-in feature to add a shortcut to the current page to the home screen (similar to the desktop of a desktop OS), so it would not be completely unpredecented. But also, it's unlikely to happen in time for Firefox 44.
By the way, you can still use unsigned extensions in Firefox 43 if you turn off the signing requirement. cor-el linked to articles describing how to do that.

cor-el, Say listen, I apologize for the late reply - I'm here alone in the office trying to do several things at the same time! I momentarily had a chance to check the sites you provided. I was able to install FF43 and change the signing, (xpinstall.signatures.required in about:config) The use of "Create Shortcut 0.3.6" is again working. The problem remains an ongoing dilemma. I would like to trust that Mozilla is capable of providing something equal, inherent in future FF updates that would solve this problem for good.
Again, think you for your time and effort to provide me with a "temporary solution."
Best to you,
Mitchell

jscher,
Thank you for your reply. I followed cor-el's info and changed the signing, (about:config) re-installed FF43 and now still maintain The "Create Shortcut 0.3.6." I'd like to think Mozilla is aware of the importance of this add-on and might address (incorporate it into the browser to solve the problem for good. I can't be the only FF-user that places great importance on this add-on.
Best to you,
Mitchell
