Can someone PLEASE tell me how to bookmark a page using Firefox? NOTHING on this page worked at all.

more options

I have tried in vain to bookmark pages using Firefox, I have followed every tip available and nothing works. I have used Firefox for years and never had a problem until you guys kept upgrading weekly. Leave things alone, do not tweak them, let things be simple and easy and not so wanna-be sleek and stylish, yet functional. Make things work simply and effectively. Bookmarking a page should wind up on one list. Not picking and choosing where it lands or even having an option of where you want it to go. It should automatically go under BOOKMARKS and not on ANY other list. Disable that option entirely and take it away. Make it simple. Make it effective. Less options almost always equals better functions. When you make bookmarking a page confusing, it makes me want to not ever explore any other options. Your tutorials and instructions are usually wrong and very poorly written.

First, you need to disable or remove any and all "IE Tab" add-ons that have not been updated in the past 3 months -- this conflict started in Firefox 40.0.

You can check the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Then set all IE Tab-type plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then use either Disable or Remove for all IE Tab-type extensions.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that re-enable bookmarking?

The issue of where bookmarks are saved is a different one. The "one-click" method using the star icon always saved under "Unsorted Bookmarks". To gain more control, you can use one of these methods:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and click the star icon on that context menu
  • Ctrl+d
  • (menu bar) Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page
  • double-click the star on the toolbar instead of single-clicking

As an alternative to IE Tab, this extension will launch pages you want to view in IE in IE itself: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-in-ie/
