Not that simple becaue Outlook has it's own microsoft methodology. Equally a pain when you want to move away from Outlook.

Address Books can be exported in comma separated .csv format. Open 'Address Book'. Select the address book (not All Address Books) Tools > Export choose where to save and make sure you save in .csv format.

You should be able to import a .csv file into Outlook.

If you use an imap mail account in Thunderbird then all your mail is actually stored on the server, so you could just create new imap mail accounts in Outlook and connect to the server to see emails on server.

However, if you use POP mail account or have a load of previous imap emails saved in your 'Local Folders' account: Thunderbird saves emails in mbox files. Outlook uses .pst which is entirely different and unique to Outlook.

So one option would be to get a mbox to pst converter. Another option - Thunderbird can already export emails in .eml format. Right click on email or highlighted emails and choose 'Save as ' then you could use WLM to import the .eml and then move them into Outlook.

I'm not promoting this method as i've not used it. You can purchase the converter or they do mention a free method. AS TB can already export to .eml, you could use the info to get into WLM and then into Outlook. http://www.aid4mail.com/export-thunderbird-to-outlook

Where are my emails stored in Thunderbird? All your Thunderbird files and folders are stored in your Profile folder.

Make hidden files and folders visible

In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'show folder' button

A window will open showing contents of Profile folder. Close Thunderbird now - this is important

Click on 'Mail' folder click on pop mail account

  • mbox files do not have any extension - they contain emails.
  • files with .msf extension are indexing files they do not have emails.
  • Folders with .sbd extension, these are created when you create subfolders in the folder pane. Click on the .sbd folder to see more mbox files and .msf index files.

You can right click on mbox file and select Copy to paste in another location on your computer and then use a converter to get into pst format. This will leave the original in thunderbird just in case it is required.
