Hello: I dont know what to call the thing I am seeing on my screen. [please see screenshot.] It has just started to appear in last 3 days. I upgraded to 34.0.5 and it is still there. How do I determine why it is now showing or what is causing it to show?

It happens on all web pages. Its like a new style pop up (but i have pop-up option turned OFF) so i dont think its a pop-up as such. But it appears after a while, It is transparent. Has no information other than a x in a circle and close. So just annoying to have to keep closing it all the time.

Any ideas thankyou

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for issues caused by plugins and set all plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" page (plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode)

thankyou cor-el.

  • switched to safe mode (open Fx with option pressed)
  • verified default theme is active. (I had already disabled userstyle(custompintab) that i use to make pin tabbed smaller in width.

Ok, this transparent thing, still appears in safemode. But in safemode it is showing an advertisement. mmm.. so what could be allowing it to do this? as its on all web pages. and I have pop-ups blocked in my preferences.

Does safemode honor that preference or not?

screenshot below of what i see in normalmode: (no advertisement) blank transparent section overlay brown -- what i am calling this new thing -- showing above my bottom toolbar)

screenshot below of what i see in safemode: (shows advertisement)

its happening on ALL webpages
