Reinstalling Firefox and linking to an existing account

My desktop computer had a meltdown requiring a new hard drive and re-installation of Firefox. Upon installation I was asked for an authentication code but I have never put the two step process in place.

I'm then asked for a 10 digit number provided when setting up my account. I set my account up multiple years ago and have an alpha numeric code which does not work.

I can still access my account on my laptop - just cant reinstall on my desktop.

OS - Windows 10 - up to date, downloaded yesterday. Same with Firefox.

Suggestions?

Hi Karen, in the spirit of Safety First, I suggest making a physical backup of your profile folder files on your laptop in case you aren't able to get your Firefox Account to work on your desktop. This article has the steps to locate the relevant folder:

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

On your desktop computer, does the login process mention sending a message to your default email account containing a code?

Thank you - sound advice and I will do.

Confusingly, no mention of an email (checked spam folder) or account code.

Just silence.
