Am trying to change the program that opens from internet explorer to edge but can't see how to do that. So when I right-click on an open page one of the options is 'view page in ext.app' which opens Internet Explorer by default. Thanks.

Are you using IE View now or something else?

The Open in IE extension allows you to specify the path to any program you like. For example, you can send URLs to Chrome. So it probably will work with Edge if you experiment around.

Oh, Open in IE does not have a right-click content menu item for the current page. Instead, it adds a button that looks like the IE program icon to the toolbar, or you can right-click a link to the page and open that in IE/Chrome/Edge from the item toward the bottom of the menu.

Thanks for the quick reply. Am not using 'IE View' (at least I can't see it in my list of addons). If you right-click on an open page in firefox you should see an option to 'view page in ext.app' which I thought was a feature already present in Firefox? I figured there must be a way to change that, maybe in 'config:about'?

Will try the addon you suggested.

I've never seen that. Probably a different add-on. If you go to the Add-ons page, can you find anything that looks relevant? If so, click its Options button to try to specify the ext.app that would be most relevant. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then review the list on the right side for candidates. If you track it down, what is it called?

Ah, thanks again, yes it was 'ie tab' that was giving me the option. So i set it to microsoftedge.exe but neither that or the addon you linked me to will open Edge. I think it's a Microsoft issue so I'll do some more googling and see if I can figure it out. AT least I know where to look now. :) Cheers

This could be one of those Windows 8-10 issues with "modern" applications vs. traditional desktop applications. However, if you can think of a way to create a new desktop shortcut to Edge, that might reveal the necessary command line.
