Till this morning i was able to work well with TB version 37.X.X but as soon i updated successfully(as message shown to me) to version 38.0.1 nothing has been shown in the message body of any of my mail either current or past.

I have 03 accounts created in TB all were working fine till this issue. While clicking on mail only message subject & sender/receiver details are visible content of message is completely absent.

No changes have been done before or after this updation.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem. It happened yesterday evening CET. But I was still on 37.X.X. ! I just looked out for the update after the problem occured.

So I disabled all the addons which made my thunderbird work again properly. After enabling one by the other I found out that the "Exchange EWS Provider" addon is causing the problem. It's an addon for the lighning calender addon that lets you manage your MS Exchange calendars throught lightning. I had version 3.4.0~beta1 installed and now updated it to 3.4.0~beta2. Now everything is fine again. Unfortunately this addon has to be downloaded and installed manually so it doesn't get automated updates. Link: https://github.com/Ericsson/exchangecalendar/releases

Though I still wonder what made the beta1 version causing the thunderbird message body problem since I was still on 37.X.X and it worked perfectly until yesterday evening.

Well I hope this is helping.

I have the same problem and it seems to be due to the update to the Lightning calendar add-on, which was updated June 12 and is supposed to be compatible with the Thunderbird 38.0.1

I don't use the Exchange add-on mentioned above, so it must be something in Lightning.

UPDATED: WRONG! It wasn't Lightning after all. It was Thunderbird Conversations 2.8.1 I disabled it, and am now able to see body text and use my calendar too. That was what I needed. I hope it helps someone else.

As with ajsfornow, disabling Thunderbird Conversations 2.8.1 fixed the bug (which showed up with the update to 38.0.1) of Thunderbird not showing the body of ANY email messages, old or new.
