Write window covered by main TB window on Mac

I am a novice Mac user, so this may not be a TB issue, but hopefully others have figured out how to address. When I click Write to compose a new message, the new message composition window opens and everything seems normal. If however I need to go back to the TB main window, the write (new message composition) window retreats to the background (as it should). When I attempt to return to the Write window, I am left to either minimize or close the main TB window to find the Write window. The Command -Tab key sequence only shows 1 TB icon which is the main window. In Windows, the Write and the main TB windows both show in the Alt-Tab sequence with each window having equal ability to be managed. Is there an easier way to navigate back and forth from the write to main window without having to close or minimize windows on the MAC?

If you click Cmd-` on the keyboard, you should be able to switch window focus with any application that uses more than one window.
