Flash has been broken since 10.3. Any newer version lags, hangs and causes crashes, especially when running several flashes in different tabs. For years (it's been years since 10.3 right?) me and everyone I know that is using Firefox have endured this and downgraded to 10.3 when possible, but recently I've run into issues where 10.3 just doesn't have the functionality I need anymore. So my question is, does anyone know if there is a fix to the flash problem coming any time soon? Or will I have to change to chrome? I really don't want to but I don't see any other solution at this point..

Well, first, Adobe is responsible for fixing Flash, it is a third-party plugin that Firefox has no control over. If you have specific issues with Flash, you should go to Adobe and report them there.

That being said, you should try Flash 11.6. It has alot of the bugs that were introduced in 11.3 (that was the buggy version) fixed, and performs a lot better for most people. If you still have trouble, keep 11.6, and disable it's protected mode, http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493. That was the buggy feature for most users and disabling it will resolve those bugs.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

I know it's Adobe's fault Tylerdowner, but sadly it's Firefox that suffers from this and not Adobe. I'm not blaming Firefox for anything, I'm just merely saying that Firefox gets quite unusable for me from time to time due to this and I just simply want to know if anyone knows if there is a fix on the way in which case I can just hold out a bit longer..

I'll try disabling protected mode in flash! Thanks for the tip! From early testing it seems to help a little, instead of hanging / crashing it seems that now it's only starting to lag. I'll try it out for some time and see if it works. Thanks again!
