I think I have encountered a bug in acrobat plugin, but I am wondering if anyone has a solution. I download hundreds of pdf’s each week and have encountered this problem only in firefox. Internet explorer works fine by the way, but I hate IE9 I have Win7 X64, installed Acrobat pro 10.1.2 (latest) and Firefox 10.0.2 (latest) Problem: I go to an online journal that has multiple hyperlink’s to different pdf’s. I click on these hyperlinks, whilst holding down the CTRL button, to open each pdf in a new firefox tab. So I will generally have about 10 tabs open in one firefox window. I then click on a tab to make it active so I can see that particular pdf document on screen. Now I use the key board short cut CTRL+ SHIFT+ S to bring up the Save as dialogue box, name the pdf and save it to my desktop. All this seems to work fine, however now I open the document from my desktop only to find it is a totally different pdf that has been saved to the one that was open in the tab!! Specifically it is always saves the pdf file open in the last tab in firefox (so the last hyperlink I clicked on). No matter which of the other 9 tabs (which visually are different documents) I try to save it always save the same last pdf in the last tab ? Now even stranger is that if I use the acrobat save icon within the firefox tab then it saves the correct document. So the problem is only when I use the shortcut, but I want to use the keyboard short cut because of the volume of pdf’s I save. Also if I close the last tab I just opened (after all pdf’s have downloaded) then go to the other tabs and save the pdf’s in each tab, it then saves the correct pdf for each on the other 9 pdf’s open. So strange and annoying !! Try it yourself – open any 3 pdf from the articles on the website page below, by consecutively clicking on the pdf hyperlink whilst holding down the CRTL button to bring up a new tab for each new pdf file. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/vsu.2012.41.issue-1/issuetoc

I have done the uninstall / reinstall of Acrobat X pro. Have tried uninstalling Acrobat Pro X and installing Acrobat Reader X – same thing happens Tried installing acrobat reader 9.5.0, whilst Acrobat X pro was still installed - but could not get it to open pdf's in a firefox tabs -it kept using acrobat x pro. Tried it on firefox version 6.0, version 9.0 same problem. Tried Abode acrobat online support who said I should ring technical support. Rang them and they just said use IE9. I asked if this bug had been raised with them and the man said no, but I doubt he would know anyway. With acrobat preferences I have tired unticking “start up in protected mode”,also tried unticking display in browser and various others in the internet tab – Same problem. Work around’s 1) Click on the last pdf hyperlink twice and open two tabs with the same pdf in each then close the last tab. 2) In firefox options>applications, change Adobe Acrobat Document to “Use Adobe acrobat (default)” instead of “Use Adobe Acrobat (in firefox)”. This will open up acrobat X and a new instance for each pdf. 3) Only open one pdf tab at a time, save it and close the tab – too time consuming 4)Use internet explorer 8 or 9 – last resort.

Hi,

Please also check if this happens in Safe Mode. If the problem persists, please also try disabling all the plugins except PDF in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons > Plugins while still in safe mode.

Problematic Extensions

Troubleshooting Extensions and Themes

Uninstalling Add-ons

Uninstalling Toolbars

Safe mode disables the installed Extensions, and themes (Appearance) in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Use hardware acceleration when available. Options > Advanced. All these settings/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme or hardware acceleration is causing issues.

I'm not sure why you use Ctrl+Shift+S instead of Ctrl+S to save the current page.

Is that a shortcut added by one of the extensions?

Thnaks that the reply. I did not know about safe mode. I tried it in safe mode with plugin enabled - same behavour whilst in safe mode I diable all plugins expect acrobat pdf - same behaviour Any other suggestions ? It would be great if someone could try this if they are using Win x64 to see if the problem is replicatable as I am sure not many people are use Adobe plugin like I am.

Ctrl+shift+S is the save as short cut which you need to bring up a dialogue box so you can name the pdf. As You hover or the save icon it also tells you that Ctrl+shift+S if the correct short cut.

Tried Ctrl+S just in case and the short cut did nothing. Thanks for input though as I am stumped on this problem.

Any one got any other ideas ?

You can also try to check in a new profile after disabling all the plugins except the Reader. If it's okay, you can later copy the needed personal data from the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in another location separate from its files/folder. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings (Tools (Alt + T) > Options, and about:config ), and usually would also be empty of any Extensions and themes (Appearance) in Tools > Add-ons) and their settings. Also, a new profile would have no previous stored website data/settings etc., (Tools > Clear Recent History).

If the problem persists, it could be a bug as you have noted, or an error in the Adobe plugin installation. You can also try to report it here.

You could also try installing an alternate PDF reader plugin to test whether you get the same result with the alternate plugin. Try

  Foxit Reader (free)

If you get a different result, it would seem to indicate an Adobe problem. If you get the same result, you can report the bug at:
