i will load a web page and it will take awile to load and somtimes will not work i will refresh and sometimes it works but some time firefox will say not responding and it will freeze up and i have to close it out then go back in

Install add-on, run at least the option mentioned in the article, I ran them all. When finished you can uninstall the extension, all without taking taking Firefox down, The extension is one of the new JetPack extensions. (Firefox 8 --Nov 8, 2011-- should not have this particular problem).

What you describe doesn't really sound like freezing at regular intervals.

But what you may really find useful for when you have to take firefox down and bring it back up again is the following extension. Kind of puts the control on auto pilot until Firefox is back up again.
