how can I deactivate an email account that is not on my computer but thunderbird keeps sending me messages about because someone in germany is using that email
I had an email account with adelphia which was bought out by time warner years ago. I switched everything over. I am now getting mail delivery system errors sent to my under my old email address. Someone is using it in Germany probably as a mass mailer. the error messages are not coming through time warner, I have checked with them. My question is how can I get this old email account deleted from thunderbird's accounts. i have had at least three new computers since I have switched over from adelphia.net to time warner.com

Thunderbird does not send you messages. It retrieves messages from accounts you add to it. Do you have this old account added to your existing Thunderbird installation?
No I have had numerous new computers and downloaded thunderbird and started fresh. The only thing I did was to export my old email addresses and then import them to my new installation of thunderbird. I can find nothing on my computer dealing with my old email address except the emails I keep getting
Are they being sent to your new address as an email message?
they are not going through my time warner account. I checked with them and there is nothing there. They merely show up in my inbox in thunderbird most as"mail system error - returned mail" sent by mail administrator to my 6+ year old email address. Today I even got a response from someone sent to my old email address. I think it was in German. I have asked a friend to translate it.
I would check the source code of these messages. Email does not just appear in an inbox without being routed there.
