What is the "installl converter customized web search" search window?
I downloaded Open Office. Unfortunately I also got a "Video Converter" toolbar I didn't want. I got rid of it using Tools. But I still have a search bar that says (in light grey) "Installl Converter Customized Web Search". It is part of the "Installl Converter Community Toolbar (with three "L"s)". This means that even though I don't see the toolbar anymore, this is still lurking in my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X, 10.7.5). How can I get rid of this? Thank you!

See if it is listed as an add-on. Firefox Options > Add-ons > Plugin or Extension. If you find it, disable or remove it.
It is very sad :-< but many of the software
down-loaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the
teeny tiny fine print. You are thinking
you are giving the program permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the manual option instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on, everyone needs to use the manual option to put a stop to this.
Hello. Thank you for your answer. I should have mentioned that I did remove this from my extensions and there are no other add-ons. So why is there still a window with those words greyed out? In fact, if I hover over the magnifying glass, a box will open that says "Search using Installl Converter Customized Web Search." Doesn't that mean that it is still active? Dan
I will definitely take your advice from now on about not using "recommended" when installing. It makes me not want to install at all. By the way, I found a website that answers questions about this, but it appears it's by the same group that created it.
I just figured this out. I pulled the menu down and choose "manage search engines", then removed the offending search engine. Thank you for helping. Dan
