Hello I am on 85.0b3 (64-bit) version of Thunderbird and trying to set up gmail to be used with it. I have done it before on another laptop so i know I am using the right usename/email and password for my account but its telling me it cannot connect to server suggesting I have put in wrong email address or password - but I havent. Thanks for help.

Have you disabled cookies... oAth authentication requires them to be on. Some so called security software meddles in cookie settings on your behalf.

Have you checked your internet security suite firewall component is allowing Thunderbird access to the internet?

Thank you Matt - OK I have just checked my cookies and they enable all and I even set gmail.com manually to allow.

I dont think it a firewall issue because I have my pop3 email configured in thunderbird and its sending and receiving perfectly and working as normal ... so it seems an issue with gmail imap setting then .

any other ideas please?

Could it be I have gmail imap configured in a version of thunderbird on my old laptop? - can you configure gmail imap into thunderbird on 2 laptops at the same time?
