Thunderbird version 78.1.0 won't sync at all. Error message: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, user name, or password." I KNOW my user name and password are correct. I didn't make stupid upper case/lower case or spelling errors with my user name or password and they work just fine with Comcast web based e-mail. First, I used Thunderbird automatic configuration without success. Then I got server settings from Comcast and CAREFULLY did Thunderbird manual configuration several times but got the same error each time. I even contacted Comcast for technical assistance several times, but they were useless idiots, as usual. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird, but that also didn't help. I'm running Windows 10 with the latest updates installed.

Just to clarify, how do you get Thunderbird to use automatic settings when correcting those of an existing account? Or did you blow away your existing account in Thunderbird and try and recreate it. In which case you just made things immeasurably harder than they were.

When configuring Thunderbird to connect to Comcast for the first time, all I had to do was type my e-mail address and password into the Thunderbird dialogue boxes and Thunderbird took over from there by using data in its library along with my user name and password to probe the Comcast e-mail server in order to connect me. But sadly, it failed.

Also, as mentioned previously, my Comcast e-mail account works fine. I can access it, send, and receive e-mail via the Comcast website, so Thunderbird or the Comcast e-mail server is the problem, not my e-mail account itself.

Another thing I should mention is that Norton is my antivirus program. I checked it and Thunderbird has all permissions for incoming and outgoing traffic. Even so, I temporally disabled Norton anyway to see if this would help, but it did not.
