According to posted information, your recommended add-on will not change the visited link color for all sites, only google search results. This is of no use to me as obviously what is needed is for all visited links, regardless of website or search engine, to sharply contrast with the color of unvisited links.

You don't need an extension to change the colors for visited links. Follow these steps.

Step 1: Make sure the "Always use Private Browsing mode" option is deselected.

• Go to Tools->Options->Privacy & Security
• Scroll Down to History.
• Right under History a line says Firefox Will - change the drop down to Use Custom Settings for History
• Make sure the box Always use Private Browsing mode is unchecked

Step 2. Follow the instructions to change the color of fonts and visited links. The color selection for visited links is grouped with font color.

I don't want to have to override all the colors of a page, only the color of visited links in a page. This option makes it difficult to use some web pages, especially those that use variations in shading for backgrounds to delineate different sections of the page, for example login regions on a page sometimes use contrasting backgrounds. This option overrides ALL the colors on a page and can make a page very difficult to navigate. What is needed is a tool like "visited" that simply allowed you to modify the color of visited links.

You can consider to use code in userContent.css to set a default :visited color. Note that this can cause issues with links that consist of a (background) image.

Add code to the userContent.css file to modify the appearance of a website.

There is insufficient information provided in these links. I created a userContent.css file with the recommended language but it is ineffective in firefox v.57. All suggestions to date are commonly seen in response to older questions with firefox. Apparently the problem is that v.57 simply does not permit many of the add-ons successfully used with firefox in the past. I now suspect the only real solution is to abandon firefox and return to Chrome or another browser.

Before you switch to Chrome please try the Extended Support Release (ESR) of Firefox. It will bring you back to Firefox 52 and will be supported by Firefox until June 2018. I have asked that Visited by 7-elephant be upgraded to Web API so that will run properly in Firefox 57. This will give the developer time to do the upgrade so it works for you!

Before you switch to ESR please backup your profile in case the ESR has issues with your current profile! Follow these instructions - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Then go to this page and download the ESR - Use the Download Mozilla Firefox ESR button on the upper right of the page. You can ignore joining the community. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/

Thank you very much for your help. I am trying to use firefox with "Sonya" (Linux Mint 18.2). The PPA does not appear to provide an option for the ESR version. Can you (or someone) provide a link to information about where firefox 57 is installed or how I should replace it with the ESR version of firefox? I can't seem to find a clear description of how firefox is installed in Mint or how to install the ESR version. I have the tar.bz2 package downloaded and unzipped from the link you shared; however I haven't found information on where the folder should be saved or how to create a link to it. Also do I need to completely uninstall firefox 57 before doing anything with the ESR version?

Here is an article on Installing Firefox on Linux Mint. I would definitely say that you should uninstall the Firefox 57 version you have installed now before proceeding. Make sure you save your profile as I indicated previously then follow the instructions Installing outside of a package manager

Hello safemanusa, Thank you very much. Your suggested solution appears to work. I discovered in researching other options that it is said to be possible to use greasemonkey in combination with a user script entitled "Visited Lite" to do this with firefox v.57 as well; however since firefox 52.5 works with visited my problem is solved! Thanks again.
