Something that you have downloaded/installed on your system has affected your User-agent, which identifies your browser and version:

  • Your user-agent reported with your question post:
    • Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.14) Gecko/2009082707 Firefox/3.0.14 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) FBSMTWB
      • Firefox/3.0.14: Indicates Firefox version 3.0.14
      • FBSMTWB: Indicates you have the Fast Browser Search toolbar installed; see below
  • See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Agent

You can reset your user agent. Follow the instructions: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Websites%20or%20add-ons%20incorrectly%20report%20incompatible%20browser

You have an item installed that is considered malware/spyware/adware. To see the Plugins reported with your question, click "More system details..." to the right of your original question or, on the Firefox menu, click Tools > Add-ons > Plugins.

  • FBSMTWB: in your User-agent ndicates you have the Fast Browser Search toolbar installed

This type of pest is usually installed along with software you download from the internet; generally free programs, but not always. Carefully watch for "extra" items that will be installed and un-check or opt-out of them.

  1. You can check to see if you have any of these from Web Products" installed:
  2. Also see: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_toolbars
  3. See these pages and threads about Fast Browser Search (FBSMTWB: Fast Browser Search Make The Web Better).
  4. You MAY need to change a preference if when typing one or two words in the URL/Location/Address Bar sends you to some search page other than the one you expect. To reset your default URL/location bar search provider:
    • Enter about:config in the address/URL bar and press the Enter key
    • If you see a warning, accept it (Promise that you will be careful)
    • Filter = keyword.URL
    • Below the Filter, if keyword.URL is bold, right-click on keyword.URL and choose "Reset"
    • Restart Firefox (File > Restart Firefox)
    • See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword.url
  5. You MAY need to reset your homepage if some search page that you do not want or expect opens when you start Firefox. Firefox can open multiple home pages. Home pages are separated by the "|" symbol.

I scanned with spybot search and destroy, when it finished, it had found no malware,BUT at the bottom of the page it had boxes that listed changes to a number of programs and internet explorer. So I checked them all and clicked fix,now my firefox start page doesn't have that stupid message.

YIKES! don't do what I said about spybot, yes the stupid message is gone, but so is the big google name at the top of the page.

I have tried all of the listed recommendations but none of them has helped I still get the "Your version of Firefox is no longer protected against online attacks" message. I have reinstalled Firefox at least 20 times!!! I am about ready to drop Firefox because it seems to be unreliable and risky to use. IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN HELP OR I WILL HAVE TO GO BACK TO (shudder, shudder, shake) INTERNET EXPLORER?
