Exporting Thunderbird address book results in zip file of Profile that won't open

I'm trying to export my Thunderbird Address Book so I can import into my Gmail account. I'm following proper directions - I click on my Personal Address book, go to tools and select export. The Export window that opens says "Export accounts, messages, address books, and settings to a ZIP file," with a note that my "current profile is larger than 2GB, we suggest you back it up yourself."

When I export and it creates a zip file (after a lengthy wait), the Zip is called Thunderbird_profile_backup, and it's 24gb. When I try to open it, I get an error that says Windows can't open the folder because the file is "invalid."

I then tried manually copying the profile files (as suggested), and looking up that the address book is the abook.mab file, I don't think that's what I can import into gmail.

What am I doing wrong, if anything?

Thanks!
