Encrypted passwords not migrated on update

I recently upgraded to firefox 34 (on Ubuntu 14.04) and I no longer have my stored passwords.

After some searching I found a suggestion to delete the logins.json, reset signon.importedFromSqlite, and restart Firefox. I tried this, but it didn't work. (I also saw several suggestions to remove the "Remember passwords" extension, but it is not installed.)

However, if I open the logins.json (I kept a backup), I can see it contains all my encrypted logins. On my security settings, though, the "Saved Passwords" dialog shows no passwords, and "Use a master password" has become unchecked. If I try to eneable it I get an error, "Unable to change master password." How can I fix this without wiping my password database?

Hi Brad: It could be possible to copy the logins.json file into a new profile, however is the master password was used to encrypt the file you may want to turn off the master password with these instructions: Protect your Thunderbird passwords with a Primary Password

You will need a copy of the key3.db file that matches the logins.json file to be able to decrypt the logins stored in the file.
