Why does Firefox 4 almost allways stop large downloads before it finishes and thus waste my bandwith?

If I download a file larger than 100 MB in the default Firefox 4 download window, it almost never finishes. It stops at about 75% and there is no provision to resume and therefore I have wasted my bandwidth. If I start the download, pause it and right click on the download and I copy the link and then starts a download program like Download Accelerator Plus, and I manually start the download with the link, it works. I have done a 1.03 GB file (tutorial) today from CG Cookie Citizen and there were no problems. But I have wasted several downloads by using Firefox 4. Is there a secret way of doing it?

This might be useful - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/240081-49-firefox-hangs-downloading-files

"You can usually fix this problem by opening the Downloads window(Tools > Downloads -or- hold Ctrl and press J), and clicking the Clean Up button. This will clear that long list of old downloads. Once you've done this you shouldn't have that pesky freezing problem anymore. While I'm talking about the download manager, I should recommend the Download Manager Tweak extension, which puts a cleaner look on the downloads window, and adds a few handy buttons, like Open Folder, to open the containing folder for a download."

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.

Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

brinda: I clean the window daily. I also have installed Download Manager Tweak extension.

cor-el: My anti-virus (Comodo Premium) scan the file only after the download is finished, but will allow a virus to be downloaded, but will ask me for confirmation if I want to run the file. After the download is 100% I see the mini window where it scans the file.
