After a crash and new Firefox update today (September 28, 2023), Firefox is now opening a new window along with every new tab. If I close the newly opened window, the tab on the browser 'main' firefox window also closes. The 'open links instead of new windows' is ticked. I have tried refreshing Firefox and also uninstalling and reinstalling. Running on Windows 10. Please help! Thanks, Robin

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
