I accidentally deleted the Firefox app. Now, even when restoring from Trash, I get a "new" app. Settings and years of bookmarks are gone. HELP. Desperate.

Detail: My extensions disappeard and, before I knew it was a Mozilla glitch, I tried deleteting and then reinstalling Firefox. I didn't think about it, but by deleting it, I also lost years worth of bookmarks. I tried restoring the file from Trash, but I only got a new "blank" version of Firefox. ALL my settings, bookmarks, etc. are gone. I'm desperate to get my bookmarks back. Please help!!!

Did you also remove the Firefox profile folder?

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/

In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the ~/Library folder in the Home directory is a hidden folder.

If you use the Time Machine or other backup then try to restore file(s) from this backup.

Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there?

Thank You to cor-el and FredMcD...

You guys are smart! Once you directed me where to go, restoring what I needed was actually easy!

Thank you again.
