This morning was using email, and half way thru work I tried sending message, I got a message stating " sending of message failed. An error occurred while sending mail :Unable to establish a secure link with outgoing server(SMTP)mail.twc.comusing STARTTLS since it does not advertise this feature.switch off STARTTLS for that servor contact your service provider.

I contacted spectrum, they advised they were -had been upgrading their servers. Now 12 hours later, called back another tech talked me thru how to change settings and ports . however, still will not connect to thunderbird. keep getting messages stating twc timed out - lost connection . etc

I told spectrum rep-tech that they should hopefully have contacted Mozila Thunderbird techs to resolve issue together. right now can not send or receive messages

This morning 11-15-18 , still having issues I again called spectrum , spoke with tech. went over what happened yesterday. ( above message ) stated they were still working on problem - mean time an not use thunderbird, pull email files to resend emails etc. wish thunderbird had a live chat support so we know they are seeing our problem instead of waiting and wondering..

What are the new Spectrum server settings? They should at least be able to tell you that. Please post the settings here.

Also, please post your Troubleshooting Information. At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information. Press the "Copy text to clipboard button" and paste the information into your reply.

only way I am receiving your messages now is via my email on my phone which is not thunderbird. I spoke with a local tech who set up my laptop 4 years ago - my first computer and installed thunderbird. He told me thunberbird is no longer supported it is like finding parts for an edsel car. He may come over to switch my files over to something like Gmail -keep email address but better support..

In your OP you were talking about problems sending messages. Now it's about problems receiving messages. Please clarify.

You did post the Spectrum instructions for the incoming server, but not for the outgoing server.

You did not post the Troubleshooting Information as requested above.

He told me thunberbird is no longer supported it is like finding parts for an edsel car.

This is nonsense. The update to Thunderbird v60.3.1 has just been released. Thunderbird receives security updates on a regular basis. The Thunderbird Council is actually hiring new engineers. https://blog.mozilla.org/thunderbird/2018/11/the-thunderbird-project-is-hiring-software-engineers/

Whether you want to ditch Thunderbird or not is entirely up to you.

This is a web forum, not a mailing list. You do get notification email though when there are new posts, but you don't need email at all to be able to read new posts to your topic.

I am getting your messages delivered to me via my email I have on my android phone ( deplicate ) then I am having to navigate to my laptop and go thru all the help stuff to get to the community support page. last time it was easier to pull up google chrome history page and click on the last thing I did and it brought up the same support site .

But I have yet to find any direct contact email address or number with anyone to speak with directly with thunderbird for their clients to contact directly

Can you also post your Troubleshooting Information, as asked already twice before? Thank you.
